Reiki Introduction:-
Reiki is a Japanese word, which means “universal life force energy”. The word Reiki consists of two parts:
Rei: Universal, boundless
ki: Vital life force energy, which flows through all living beings
In different religions this life energy is known by different names.

Chi: by Chinese
Light/Holy spirit: by Christians
Bioplasma energy: by Russian researchers
Reiki is the most simple and natural healing method. We are all born with this life force energy.
In Reiki the Guru or the Master attunes the students by opening up the crown chakra and other energy chakras. This enables the cosmic energy to flow through the crown chakra, through the four energy centers and flow out through the hands for treatment.
once a person is attuned he will retain the power till death. All those who become "Channels" soon realize it to be a priceless gift, an invaluable investment because it is constantly available, everlasting, reliable, very soothing and is without any complications.
By Reiki you not only get a physical healing but mental and spiritual healing too. One needs to work on himself/herself first. As he is the number one who needs balancing. Reiki brings in a state of balance. A Reiki therapist is never depleted of energy while treating others he is also treated as Reiki is a wise energy and brings in a state of balance and does not need any control or monitoring.
Reiki is love, a uniting power that leads us towards state of oneness towards the whole creation.
Essentials for learning Reiki

The history of Reiki
Dr Mikao usui was the founder of Reiki as the natural healing method...Dr Usui was the president of a small Christian university In Kyoto Japan.
An incident changed the focus of Dr Usui's life. A student once asked him whether he believed that Jesus could cure the sick by touch. He replied in positive to this, his student said that he could not believe a thing unless seen by his eyes.
The next day Dr.Usui resigned from the post and visited the University of Chicago to learn more about the secret of how Jesus and his disciples healed the sick, but could not find anything..................
Buddha also had similar qualities as he could also heal people by touch, so he returned to Japan. He started reading Buddhist scriptures and sutras.....but his search for healing was in vain there too.
He learnt Sanskrit to learn original Buddhist writings, which were never, translate into any other language.....................finally he succeeded in his efforts but he did not have power to heal so he decided to go to the sacred mountain Kuriyama to meditate for 21 days............and to receive powers to heal.
He kept 21 small stones in front of him and each passing day he threw away one stone. On the 21st day a beam of light came from the heaven and strike his crown chakra he saw a few bubbles in front of his eyes and the same symbols that he had seen in his studies..............the symbols buried themselves into his memory. When the Trans were over, Dr Usui found himself to be completely healthy without hunger and exhaustion.
He got up and began to walk down the mountain ; but he hurt his great toe, tearing the toenail..........he grabbed his toe with hand ...........in minutes bleeding stopped and pain receded......here after he became regular with Reiki and its propagation.................Dr Usui recognized Dr Chujiro Hayashi as his successor
He is probably the originator of the hand position system used here in the West. Number two is that he initiated Mrs Takata to Reiki Master which brought Reiki to the West. An ex-naval Officer in the Japanese Navy and a Naval Doctor who graduated Navy School in December 1902. He started his Reiki training with Usui Sensei in 1925, 47 years of age. It is believed he was one of the last Reiki Masters trained by Usui. Following his first training he left the Usui School and started a small clinic in Tokyo named "Hayashi Reiki Kenkyu-kai", which had 8 beds and 16 healers. Practitioners worked in pairs of two to a bed giving treatments to patients. Hayashi originally had seven to eight hand positions that covered the upper body only. These positions are based on the Eastern traditional healing methods (such as Chinese Medicine) that the "body" is the head and torso, the limbs are considered "external". When treating these positions, which cover major energy center's (acupuncture points), the energy will flow not only through the body but also to the arms and legs. .Therefore it is only necessary to treat the head and torso in order to treat the entire body mind. Usui Sensei used head positions only, and then treated any problem area on the body. He also gave additional positions for treating specific conditions. It seems that Hayashi may have adopted further hand positions and that these may have been the base for the hand positions used in the western world. These hand positions that cover the whole body gives a better overall flow of energy around and through the body. Dr Hayashi compiled his own 40 page manual on how to use the hand positions for certain ailments. This manual may have been give to his students. During his work with Reiki he initiated about 17 Reiki Masters including Mrs Takata. Chujiro Hayashi ritually ended his life by committing important part in Western Reiki. Mrs Havayo Takata

While there are those now critical of her style and methods, her one greatest achievement is the transplanting of this gentle spiritual Eastern healing modality to the West. It stands as her gift to humanity.Culturally she was well-suited to the task. Born into a Japanese immigrant family living in what was then the U.S. territory of Hawaii, she was raised with one foot in the American version of Western culture and the other foot in the Japanese version of Eastern culture. It was a bi-lingual and bi-cultural gift which would serve the diminutive lady well. As she presented her life story to her students, it, too, was something out of Joseph Campbell's book, The Hero With A Thousand Faces. Here's a brief summary of her autobiography as told to her students:Widowed, heartsick, and frail by her mid-30s, she was in failing health in Hawaii with a variety of serious abdominal ailments.Seeking a cure she traveled to Tokyo for medical care where she was scheduled for major surgery as some of her problems were potentially life-threatening. At the last minute she cancelled the operation when her intuition told her it wasn't necessary. She then asked the head surgeon if there were somewhere she could go for a non-surgical remedy. The surgeon gave her the address of the clinic run by Chujiro Hayashi. There she discovered Reiki. The Reiki treatments worked, and she was cured of her serious ailments, which included gall bladder, appendicitis, and a tumor. She stayed on to learn Reiki herself from Dr. Hayashi, whom Mrs. Takata described as Reiki's Grand Master. In 1937 she returned to Hawaii in good health to set up a Reiki practice which soon was taking up all her time. But in 1940 she was summoned to back to Tokyo by Hayashi. The clouds of war were on the horizon, and Hayashi (a Naval Reserve Officer) knew he would be summoned to military duty, something he did not wish to do as a peace-loving Buddhist and Reiki master.Mrs. Takata says Dr. Hayashi announced that she would be his successor as Grand Master (she by this time having been made a Reiki Master), and he then peacefully made his transition (Reiki's expression for passing on or dying).Mrs. Takata returned to Hawaii, and for the next 30 years she taught Reiki (first and second degree only) and put together a successful clinic living a full and vigorous life.Up until 1970, Mrs. Takata had not made any Reiki masters, although scores of people had been trained as practitioners by her. Apparently becoming aware of her advancing years and realizing the torch needed to be passed on, she began training Reiki Masters between 1970 and 1980. The number varies depending on who is telling the story, but apparently she initiated as many as 22 individuals as Reiki Masters during her last decade. In any event, while she claimed the title of Grand Master for herself while she was alive, she did not declare a successor prior to her transition, thus setting the stage for what has become the democratization of Reiki, a process not without controversy. Her legacy is mixed. Certainly those in the Western world who have had the blessing of Reiki in their lives are grateful to Mrs. Takata for bringing Reiki to our society. Yet she has been the recipient of posthumous criticism in three major areas, her claim of Grand Master, her inaccuracies about the history of Reiki, and her high fees.Independent researchers traveling in Japan in the past 10 years have discovered that it is quite unlikely Dr. Usui ever designated a successor or even claimed the title of Grand Master himself. Apparently he did initiate several Reiki Masters, of which Chujiro Hayashi was one, but they were all equals.

Characteristics of Reiki
1. The healing ability will remain with you for ever. However frequent attunement will enhance your ability.
2. Reiki energy is an intelligent force which works automatically and naturally, through the hands of a Reiki practitioner, where it is needed. It works at all revels Physical, mental, emotional and spiritual.
3. No one can learn or teach Reiki through books or knowledge gained through information. It is passed by a Master through attunement. Attunement is nothing but simply transfer of energy to a student by his teacher / master.
4. Reiki energy is not only transferred to the client by placing hands but also by blowing, gazing, stroking, tapping and massaging as used by Dr. Usui.
5. Reiki is passed / transferred from master to another through specific rites, techniques and defined form of practice taught by Dr. Usui..
6. Lineage is of vital importance. The Usui Reiki masters must have a complete knowledge of their linage. In absence of which he is not a Reiki master of Usui linage. The energy which we receive through a master of Usui linage is same received or transferred by Dr. Usui directly.
7. After the transfer of Energy from the Reiki Master, personal Reiki if blend with rituals according to one’s faith, believes, religion, can make your Reiki energy deeper and deeper that is why it is popular in all religion and races throughout the world.
8. Honest intention is of VITAL importance. Where intention goes energy goes.
9. Key of success in Reiki practice is right consciousness.
10. The beauty of Reiki lies in its simplicity.
11. Reiki requires no addition or embellishment.Reiki is unlimited, yet there are times when it appears that it does not work/heal..........Terminal diseases usually in their final stages are not in the ambit of Reiki............however, in such cases transition is made easier by lowering stress and reducing pain...........this is a great comfort.
Reiki does not remove a birth defect. It will not grow a new organ, which has been removed surgically but it will bring relief in the conditions resulting from the condition. When a gland or an organ is operating below par, Reiki stimulates its natural function for example intake of Insulin is reduced with Reiki.
Individual differences and responses to Reiki
1: Each person reacts differently to Reiki
2: A flow is felt in the palms, sometimes a sense of warmth, which can turn into heat and may even become very cold.
3: Sometimes the recipient can also feel the sensations but what he experiences as warmth can be cold for us.
4: Sometimes the flow is in the form of vibrations or tingling.
5: Continuous Reiki treatment will bring transformation in you. It will make you a new person.
6: Reiki has infinite wisdom and logic of its own. It knows its destinations and routes. It knows when and how much dosage is to be released. Reiki can not hurt or destroy instead it builds and protects.
Reiki FAQs
When can I start healing others?
After first degree attunements try Reiki freely on you and on others. Within a short gap of time miracles will start to happen.
How do I know how much healing needs to be done?
Ailments can either be chronic or acute. Chronic diseases need long term Reiki. Lots of Reiki is needed to remove the toxic conditions from the body before the healing takes place.
Cleansing of body might bring discomforts eg: increased evacuation of bowls and bladder, increased mucous secretion in the passage , watering eyes, headache, nausea and even fever etc. These are positive indications that Reiki is working.
A minimum of three days of treatment is advised so that the body is stimulated to cleanse the poisons. Chronic cases need a continuous treatment without a break for 21 days.
What preparation do I do while doing Reiki treatment?
Drink lots of water during the Reiki treatment in order to support the natural detoxification reactions.
During the treatment take off your watch and rings.
Wash your hands before and after the treatment.
Wear loose clothes which are comfortable and convenient.
The therapist and the patient should not cross their legs during the treatment as this breaks the energy flow.
How to treat?
First create an environment as quite and as comfortable as possible.
Set aside a place for regular Reiki treatment. Occasionally it may not be possible to touch the patient due to infections or burns so the healing can be given from a distance 2-3 inches away from the body.
Tell the patient that he may feel worse after one or two treatments as the illness has been brought back to acute stage from chronic stage before the eventual release.
Attitude of gratitude
1:- I thank myself (name)…..for being here.
2:- I thank the cosmic powers of Reiki to be here.
3:- I thank my parents ……….. (name) to be in my life.
4:- I thank my Guru …………… (Name) to be in my life
